Caffeine And Gallbladder Symptoms
Gallstones are a painful, reoccurring reality for many people where often gallbladder surgery is the eventual treatment of choice. However some good news about how daily moderate caffeine consumption may help minimize gallbladder symptoms and and improve gallbladder health was recently discovered at the University of Maryland, Medical Center.
Coffee To The Rescue
According to a University of Maryland Medical Center research study, caffeine was noted to stimulate gallbladder contraction and subsequent bile flow, which may not allow bile to sit long enough to form solid stones. Typically, a hormone called cholecystokinin or, CCK, is secreted by the cells in the duodenum and it reacts to the presence of fats. Its reaction increases in relation to increased fat in our food and it will send corresponding signals through the nervous system, to the pancreas and gallbladder, triggering the release of bile and enzymes for efficient digestion. Regularly triggering healthy contraction and bile secretion without adding fat to the diet appears to have health benefits without many drawbacks. The amount of caffeine was not mentioned in the study.
The Role of Bile In The Digestive System
The gallbladder is a small organ found below the liver. It stores and secretes bile into the digestive system to aid in the breakdown of fats in our food. The gallbladder will expand to roughly 8 x 4 cm and 50ml capacity when full. It holds waste products from the liver as well as concentrated bile salts, bilirubin, cholesterol and other elements. Bile is a greenish-brown fluid, manufactured by the liver which assists with our digestion by breaking down fats and allowing absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Excess bile which is not immediately required is stored in the gallbladder and released as needed.
Gallstones, formed from a mixture of bilirubin, cholesterol and other elements in the bile can range in size from a grain of sand to a golf ball. Many people experience no problems from gallstones but they can become painful when they travel to the common bile duct where they may become lodged. This condition may cause inflammation of the gallbladder as well as pressure and can lead to rupture which is a serious, life-threatening condition.
Coffee: Not To Be Taken When Experiencing Gallbladder Symptoms
Unfortunately, drinking coffee can worsen gallbladder symptoms and inflammation pain due increasing contractions in already inflamed tissue. Gallbladder pain may radiate from the upper, right abdomen to the right shoulder. For this reason, your doctor may advise against caffeinated drinks while your gallbladder is inflamed.
Natural Alternatives To Gallbladder Pain
While there are lots of diets that may promote gallbladder health by minimizing or managing existing conditions, there still has not been an alternative that truly addresses the root of the problem, the gallstones; that is until now.
There is a gallstone dissolution and elimination program that works on cholesterol and calcified gallstones. The program is non invasive and will dissolve gallstones in the gallbladder, liver, common bile duct and even at the mouth of the pancreas. The program is called The Pulverexx Protocol. The total duration for this process is one month.
